Apple Domination

So, those of you who live in Chicago may find this interesting:
Per the Sun Times, "Apple may pay millions to 'dominate' CTA station".
So, apparently that big monstrosity that they are building next to the North and Clybourn stop on the red line is actually going to be another Apple store. Great placement in an up and coming area if you ask me.
However, as anyone who has gotten off at the North and Clybourn stop can attest, this stop needs some serious updating. Apple is proposing to pay 4million to update/renovate this station in exchange for exclusive rights to marketing/approval of any advertising that would be displayed at the station. What they wouldn't get is the right to rename the station, so we'll see what happens.
As we all know though, what Apple wants, Apple gets, especially when they throw lots of money at the problem. So, who knows, maybe in a year we'll have an Apple train station in Chicago.

Auto Insurance

confused
From my company's business auto policy, the contingencies state the following:
"There are no male or unmarried female drivers under age 25 assigned to this car."
So, apparently, if you are married you are automatically a responsible driver? Is anyone else as confused as I am? I was unaware that marriage apparently makes women more responsible drivers.

8 hour day

annoyed
So, normally I would not mind working "at most" an 8 hour day. After all the jobs I've had where I put in 60-100 hour weeks on a regular basis you'd think I'd see this as a blessing, and normally I would.
The problem, you see, is that I am a contractor, or at least that's what the company I'm currently working for would like to make it seem that I am. I've worked as a contractor before, and it definitely has it's perks, which is why I didn't mind so much that they wanted me to be a contractor when I took this position. I mean, come on, set your own hours, work from home, take time off whenever you'd like. Those are some awesome perks. The downside however is having to pay your own taxes (which is why they wanted me to be a contractor instead of an employee).
Now, remember those perks listed above that a contractor gets, yeah? Well, I get NONE of those. Not a single one. The government has rules about these kinds of things. If you're treated like an employee then you have to be paid like an employee, and boy am I ever an employee. I can't work from home, ever, not even when I was on crutches and practically on bed rest (costing me nearly 2 months pay because I had to take time off), I don't get to set my own hours (I had to take off yesterday because of the flu, and wanted to make up time today and tomorrow so that I can afford to pay my bills, and was told that that was not an option, I am to work NO MORE THAN 8 HOURS), and as for taking off whenever I'd like, unless I'm sick, I HAVE to take off when they have holidays (without pay) and I can't take off unless they don't need me. Now, does this sound like an employee or a contractor to you?
I wouldn't mind being an employee, I mean, paid holidays, paid sick time, paid vacation, insurance (which I currently can not afford because I took more than a $10 an hour pay cut to work here with the assumption that it was a pt job (now 40 hours per week)), 401k and free bus fair monthly. But according to my "supervisor", whose work I always have to correct, there is a hiring freeze currently. Now mind you, on the day she stated this, we hired several new employees, and since then have hired 4 more. Hiring freeze my ass, the owners just want to get away with not paying for jack shit for me, and still complain about paying me at all.
Mind you, the irony of the situation is that my father's company works with theirs, and he does not particularly like them... I now see why.
So, I will yet again be sending out resumes in the hopes of finally finding a decent company to work for.
Anyone out there looking for an honest corporate accountant??

new shoes

In retrospect, I realize that perhaps wearing brand new shoes to work today was a very poor choice.
The areas which only slightly pinched at first have since become very large, red, painfully blistered areas, which I seem unable to make better.
One would imagine that after 20 some odd years of very similar experiences I would have learned my lesson by now when it comes to new shoes, but alas, I always hold out hope that one day I may find that perfect pair of shoes which may actually fit properly on not one, but both feet. On the day that I find this pair of shoes, I will inevitably be unable to purchase any others as they will have been discontinued, or so my previous experiences with luck have dictated.
Oh well, for now I shall suffer the indignity of trying to walk with one heel up, without appearing to limp, so that I can keep my cute shoes on my feet, when I should instead be in my pumas.

My Car SUCKS!!!
Nov. 4th, 2006 | 10:00 pm

mood:
frustrated
So my car has completely died. It starts if I try about a hundred times, but then when I put it into drive it dies again. I am SO pissed. I am supposed to be driving home for Thanksgiving, and it is the first time that I will have come home in two years. Plus, it's Saturday night and I can't leave the house as I have no car. I am sitting here bored, and the only people home are my roommate and his girlfriend. And on top of everything else, my roommate keeps going on about how hot I looked last night when I went out, and he can't stop staring at me, especially my boobs.
I wish my car would work :(
